“If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time.” – Marcel Proust
As always, the Friday Edition combines a quote with a favorite photo. I tailor these to the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge theme, which this week is “Dreaming”.
This one is perhaps a bit of a stretch, but today’s theme, “Dreaming”, made me think of the song “California Dreaming”, a 1965 song that my oldest brother loves. From there, I immediately flashed to one of his favorite movie posters, for the film “Endless Summer”, which came out the next year, in 1966.
The song and the movie are, for some reason, interwoven in my mind as a single entity…even though their only common bond is my brother.
The truly odd part is that, the other day when we were at the beach, I watched my daughters hoist their boogie boards into the air, and start running for the waves. I ran over and snapped this picture, because it reminded me of that movie poster. And I swear to you, after I took the picture, I started singing “California Dreaming”.
So the theme–Dreaming–made me think of the song, then the movie, then the iconic poster (below). And from there I thought of this picture.
I know, I know–it’s a stretch. But that’s the way my brain is working today!
Aloha!

Bwahahaha, it is like the tenth degree. Still, it made you share that outstanding photo.

I love that song. The next day after posting it, I was walking into the restaurant at our hotel (I was at Cornell University for workshops), and the song started playing. Gave me the goosebumps!
Posted by AlohaKarina | July 17, 2012, 10:25 amOh I just saw that poster at a craft table and remembered that whole era. Very cool.
Great shot.
Posted by rutheh | July 17, 2012, 12:31 amThanks! My brother has the poster framed in his house. I remember he had it when I was a kid in Hawaii…so it’s been in my head all these years.
