“Then followed that beautiful season… Summer….
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Maine poet
Yesterday’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge celebrated summer in Hawaii. Today’s photos celebrate summer in Maine.
Were I forced to choose either one or the other for the rest of my life, I honestly don’t know which one I would pick. Hawaii is fabulous; Maine, glorious. Each different, but each a part of my soul. Would I choose the sands of Lanikai, or Goose Rocks Beach? Would I enjoy plate lunch and ahi poke, or lobster rolls, steamers and corn on the cob with butter?
If you haven’t been to either state, you must. They are both unique, fantastic–and, for this misplaced Mainah kama’aina, about as far apart as you can get and still be in the United States.
Enjoy a couple more sights of Kennebunkport, on the southern coast of Maine.

Your summer quotations are tops! And your photos evoke relaxation at a leisurely pace. You captured “summer”.
Posted by rutheh | May 26, 2012, 10:21 pmThanks! That lobster roll was amazing…whoooo! I wait for summer just for that.
Posted by AlohaKarina | May 26, 2012, 10:53 pmYummm! Like both of your state’s posts!
Posted by The Retiring Sort | May 26, 2012, 11:20 pmI do, too! I am still trying to figure out how to have both. Maybe when we retire. Summers in Maine, winters in Hawaii?
Posted by AlohaKarina | May 27, 2012, 10:31 amI like it!
Posted by The Retiring Sort | May 27, 2012, 11:00 amAnd thank you!!
Posted by AlohaKarina | May 27, 2012, 10:31 amThe Clam Shack is my favorite place in Kennebunkport…also love the fried clams!
Posted by Madelaine | May 27, 2012, 9:48 amThe clam cakes are killer, too. But the best kept secret in all of Maine is that they make the BEST onion rings anywhere. They are perfectly tender and crispy, and they aren’t a bit greasy. WOW!
Posted by AlohaKarina | May 27, 2012, 10:33 amI’m already sold on Maine! All the quaint little towns and villages, and most of all, the friendly people. Its varied coast line, from sandy beaches to rugged more north… I would love to, but it’s not likely, that I ever get to Hawaii. There are so many other places on our ‘bucket list’..
Posted by reb | May 27, 2012, 10:50 pmYou really shouldn’t miss Hawaii…it is unique in the world, really. Amazing.
Posted by AlohaKarina | May 28, 2012, 12:45 pmThanks for letting me camp out in your blog for a little while. I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as clean as when I arrived. I’ll be back!
