  4. Wow! Nice looking pineapples. They certainly don’t look like that over here in the lower 48.

  6. simply full of memories of trips to Hawaii and shopping at the local market at home. a story comes to mind of seeing some wonderfully fresh pineapples many years ago, and noticing the price $2.98 which seemed very reasonable (=inexpensive) for such large, fresh-looking fruit, so I selected the biggest and best one i could find in order to get the best bang for my buck.

when i got to the cashier with the item i originally went shopping for and the pineapple, i was in for a surprise. in my excitement and memories of trips to Hawaii in the past, i had overlooked that the price was $2.98 – per pound. so my grocery bill came to about $15, much more than anticipated. but i held my head up high and paid nonchalantly as i didn’t want to go through the embarrassment of having the charge reversed etc.

at home i told one of my roomies, “we are going to enjoy this or else!” and we laughed about my mistake. i have since learned that there is no point saving face if you feel something is overpriced. but that was then. and for the record, the pineapple really was delicious. we all did enjoy.

    • Goodness! What a story! I would have done the same thing when I was younger…but yes, these days, I have NO problem telling someone that I decided against an item after all!

Isn’t Hawaii a wonderful place? I grew up there; we had an apartment in Aiea, on Oahu, near Pearlridge. It’s a magical place. I hope to live there again some day.
